Melbourne Cup 2010 - "The race that stops a nation"
The run-down to the 150th Melbourne Cup on 2 November 2010 has begun in earnest.
On 17th August the Victoria Racing Club invited the who’s who of Australian fashion, entertainment, sport and society to hit the red carpet at city hot spot The Ivy, to help celebrate a milestone year for one of the country’s most significant sporting, social and cultural events.
Guests received a special welcome from 1992 Melbourne Cup winning horse Subzero, before being treated to an exclusive look at the Melbourne Cup Carnival and its impact on Australian culture and our national identity.
The exclusive event featured special guest, Myer Ambassador Jennifer Hawkins, who arrived carrying the coveted 2010 Emirates Melbourne Cup itself.
Much discussion centred around whether legendary trainer Bart Cummings could win an amazing thirteenth Melbourne Cup.
Guests were addressed by VRC Chief Executive, Dale Monteith and Emirates Vice President, Australasia, Barry Brown.
Masters of Ceremonies for the red-carpet event was Mark Beretta, from Channel Seven’s Sunrise.
"Hyperion" (Robert Bishop) and "Carbine" (Andrew Beattie) were both in attendance and look forward to covering the build up to the Melbourne Spring Carnival, with races including the W.S.Cox Plate and the Caulfield and Melbourne Cups.
If any reader would like to recieve by email Hyperion's and Carbine's tips for the Caulfield Cup, Cox Plate and Melbourne Cup the day before those races, please email Great Racehorses at editor@greatracehorses.net
